Ik ga me best doen!

As preparation to the world championships later this month, I had one more competition in Copenhagen. Copenhagen was warm and dry, good conditions for highjump. but sadly it was hard to get a good approach on towards the bar. My competition early with a disappointing 217cm, I had some clearance on 220cm, but couldn’t get over due to technical problems.
I got 10 days left before the qualification in Berlin and I will have to work hard to get some of my technique back that I had in the beginning of the season.

When I woke up this morning, a shock went through my body. I heard rain drops on my bedroom window. I turned around thinking about yesterday. The weather was good, good enough to enjoy the beach with some friends. I sighed and thought, if it’s raining then we will all have this crap weather. Pushed the power button on laptop to see what the forcast were for today and the website said that the bad weather should clear in the afternoon.
Friends and family gathered in my parents home to drive to the national championships in Amsterdam. We had to go with 2 cars, so I had some people cheering for me at the nationals! (Thank you for that!)
Luckely the forcast for the afternoon was right and there was no rain! So that wasn’t a problem, but that didnt mean I didnt have any, I had a lot of problems with my running during my warm up. (sadly, nothing new) My next to competitors were, Jan Peter Larsen(SB 219 PB 225) and Wilbert Pennings(SB 215 PB 230) Starting at 2m I cleared everything untill 219, where I needed to tries. Then 221 where I even needed 3! After that I was national champion, the hole competition I was struggling with consistency and that result in 3 completely different jumps on 225.

Last weekend I went to the rainy and very windy island of Ireland for the Cork City Sports. Before the men highjump started, the women were jumping. High speed winds, but no rain, made the jumping for the women very difficult. They were waiting for the wind to lay down when the clock counted down.
I don’t mind the wind so much, probably because I am from Den Helder, where it is always windy and sunny. During the warm up I had to run into the 4m/s winds, after 2 warm up jumps I thought it was useless do to warmup jumps now and I had to put more focus in my rithm.
During the girls competition I noticed that alot of girls put to much force in there running when they had to run into the strong winds, but it totally messed up their approach.
I started low again so I could gain some experience with the wind and the competition went smooth up until 224. Suddenly a big rain storm started flooding the track and impossible to jump savely.
The only jumpers that jumped 221 without faults were me and Jamie Nieto. After the jumps that we both tried at 224, we felt that we were slipping and decided to share the victory.

The day after I got back from Bergen, I went to Somoskö. A small town in the maintains between Slovakia and Hungary. The hole day it was raining but 30 minutes before the competitions started the sun started shining.
I wasn’t as good as this weekend in Bergen, especially the technique. I was strungling alot with that and didnt feel so confident after the warmup.
So I started the competition low to get some feeling for the jumps, but sadly that didn’t happen.

Bergen 229
After 2,5 years woprking with my coach Gina Dubnova, we finally managed to get a reasonable good result. The past years we had alot of trouble improving my technique and that finally got alot better at the start of this season. The feeling that we were close to a good result was strong but in the first 7 competitions of this season I didnt manage to get it out.
I’m thankful for my coach Gina, she has been working hard on my technique and my horizon for 2,5 years. Now I’ve two months for Berlin andwe don’t know yet what we will do.

Disappointing result after a last minute entry in meeting le athletism Montrieul in Paris, made me eager to prove myself in a meeting that has been in my agenda for quite some time.

The meeting in Paris was tough, I was preparing for the a meeting in Finland when I suddenly get a call I could jump in Montrieul, which messed up my schedule. I accepted but bad preparation led to a bad result. Only managed to jump 215 really no good attempts at the meeting.
So right after the meeting I traveled to Finland to jump in Kourtane, after a good and much needed day rest. I managed to jump well over 221cm and even try some attempts on the qualifcation limit for Berlin.
Now I will prepare for my next meetings and try to jump for a good result again.
